Procedural "handpainted" material made in Susbtance Designer.
Not having the drawing talent to make handpainted textures completely by hand, I wanted to use Desginer to make a material that could get me most of the way (if not all the way) on most models, and then only have minor touchups to do by hand.
I ended up making a material that functions in layers : a base coat, followed by 7 brush layers stacked on top of one another, and then baked information computing.
With a total of 350+ parameters available to the user, it's fully customisable, and can take custom color gradients and brush strokes as inputs.
However this high amount of parameters means it takes a few seconds to load when applied on a surface.
Overall I'm rather happy about how this project turned out, as it works well, even better than I initially expected.
The axe and scroll example are about 95% the procedural material, and 5% hand drawn edits.
